(Social effects of Islamic Waqf in Iran (part III

Abstract

Waqf effects in Islamic society have been recognized. In Iran, all of political, economic, cultural and social effects have not been considered. Social effects of Waqf has close relationship with other cultural, economic and political aspects and has been regarded as all-embracing evidence in societies.

Islamic Waqf has been more developed factor among social aspects and in Iran, it has studied in different dimensions. First and second part of this paper deal with ten social dimensions of Waqf; social security, social equity, solving individual and social problems, making habitable cities, altruism, relief payment, meeting the people needs, holding religious ceremony, creating religious place and libraries. In part three, seven other dimensions are studied; entrepreneurship, sustainable development, ensuring the health, welfare development, reduction of material poverty, development of tourism and creating healthy competition.

Review of historical document of bondwomen Waqf in Qajar era

Abstract

From olden times, donation a part of property to others and allocation of property to the special aims has been considered. In Islamic history, it has been nominated Waqf. There is a historical deed of endowment about donation of a bondswoman to provide nursing services in Imam Reza Dar al- Shefa (clinic) by Mirza Mohammad Hossein Azad al-Molk, the custodian of Astan Quds Razavi in Qajar era which represents one of the exceptional example of Waqf in Iran. In this paper, the deed of endowment has been introduced and different religious, historical, economic, social and political dimensions have been studied.

Etemadieh endowed library in Hamedan

Abstract

Libraries and research centers are considered as symbols of civilization. Their founders were belonged to ruling class because providing manuscripts and supporting their authors has been costly and common people couldn’t afford to it. Hamedan is an ancient city but its libraries have not been introduced very much. The oldest library in Hamedan is endowed E?temadieh library which has been endowed by Alireza Gharaqozlou, entitled third Baha al-Molk and includes 1500 books with history of 750 year. In this paper in addition to introducing library building and using manuscripts, new find documents, the date of construction, the process of library shaping and collecting of books have been studied.

Endowed Panjeh Negars in Zanjan

Abstract

During the Islamic period, one of the important social and cultural problems has been Islamic supporting and affirmation of Waqf. The endowed properties include immovable (school, hospital, Takaya, Hosseinieh, stores and personal house) and movable (Quran, mourning instruments such as Alam andKotal, lights, copper dishes, flag, carper and rugs) and many of them are unknown and need to documentation. The main goal of this paper is to introduce of endowed metal Panjeh which is one of the important symbol of mourning. In this paper, the history of metal Panjeh, its source, review of related inscriptions and their artistic style are provided.

Introducing Zaynab Beiqom and her endowed school and mosque

Abstract

According to the present documents in Iran, the most endowed properties belong to Safavid era. The safavid capital was located in Esfahan, so the most endowed works is found in this city. Interestingly, about one third of them are belonged to women which show the women participation in charitable affairs. One of these women is Zaynab Beyqom whom with help of his husband, endowed a part of her properties to construction of school, mosque and help to orphans and the needy people. In this paper, this charitable woman and two of her endowed properties are introduced which are classified in Esfahan monuments.

Qajar deed of endowment in Zanjan

Abstract

Zanjan is known as “Dar al-Sa?adat”. It is a historical city with various endowments such as mosques, schools, public places, books and passion- playing for martyrs of karbala. In this deed of endowment, twelve deeds of endowment has been reviewed and introduced since beginning of Qajar era. This document includes valuable information about history and geography of civil endowments, knowledge of dignitaries, inscriptions and anthropology with historical documents.

Abstract

Consistently, Iranian have been tried to respect to holy shrines and these shrines have been used to Islamic and Shiite culture development. During the time, the shrines have had effect on Islamic art and civilization. After victory of Islamic revolution and emphasize of Imam Khomeini (God bless his soul) on having relaxed living under the protection of holy shrine and also emphasize of supreme leader to providing cultural center in the shrines, the charity and pious foundation began its works on the bases of trusteeship and management of holy shrines and macro cultural politics of Islamic holy system in the field of construction, development, promotion of management and holy shrine services to the extent that supreme council of cultural revolution has named the fifth day of Dhu al- Qa?adah as national day of respect and honor of shrines. In this direction, the first international congress in shrines was hold in Isfahan in 10-11 September 2013 in Isfahan. 600 papers were sent to secretariat and the best papers were put into print in four volumes. Before, one of the volumes entitled “The shrines, manifestation of sacred art” was introduces in which decorations of shrines had been studied. Now, other part, respect of the shrine, is studied in which the social role of shrines as cultural centers is introduces.
